Privacy Policy

The short version

Caltopia stores everything you log on your device. We have no servers, no account system, and no analytics. We do not track you across apps or websites, do not sell your data, and do not share it with advertisers.

Data we collect

We collect only what you enter into the app: foods, meals, water intake, weights, body measurements, dietary preferences, gamification progress (XP, streaks, achievements), and UI preferences (theme, tab order).

We do not collect: your name (unless you type it for personalization, in which case it stays on your device), your location, your contacts, your photos (except as an explicit OCR input you select), advertising identifiers, or anything used for tracking.

Where your data lives

All personal data is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework, inside the app's private sandbox. We never upload, share, sell, or transmit your data to any server we control. We have no servers.

Network activity

Caltopia only makes outbound network requests for the following purposes:

• Food search queries to Open Food Facts (public, non-commercial database) using your search term. No personal information is sent.
• Food search queries to USDA FoodData Central using your search term and an API key. No personal information is sent.
• Barcode lookup using the same APIs above when you scan a product.
• Voice transcription using Apple's on-device Speech framework when you tap the microphone. Audio is processed for transcription only and not retained by us.

No request to any of these services includes your identity, weight, food log, or any other personal data beyond the search term itself.

Apple Health

Apple Health integration is off by default. If you turn it on in Settings, Caltopia will:

• Read your weight and activity samples from Apple Health (only the types you grant access to)
• Write food, water, and weight you log to Apple Health (only if you choose to)

All Apple Health data stays on your device under Apple's HealthKit privacy controls. We never transmit Health data anywhere.

Permissions we may request

• Camera — only when you open the barcode scanner or nutrition-label OCR screen. We never run the camera in the background.
• Microphone & Speech Recognition — only when you tap the voice-log microphone button.
• Photo Library — only if you choose to pick an existing photo for OCR.
• Health (read / write) — only if you enable Apple Health sync.

Tracking

We do not track you across other apps or websites. We do not use analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking SDKs. There is no App Tracking Transparency prompt because there is nothing to track.

Children

Caltopia is intended for users aged 13 and older. Onboarding includes an age check; users who indicate an age under 13 cannot complete setup. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.

Your choices

You can delete any logged entry from within the app at any time. You can fully erase all app data by deleting Caltopia from your device.

Changes to this policy

If we materially change this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date and surface a notice in-app on next launch. Continued use after a change indicates acceptance.
